Foods That Fight Cancer

I found these 2 articles on webmd.com about foods that fight cancer. One was in the archives meaning that it is over a year old and the other is from less than a year ago.

Top Cancer-Fighting Foods

It lists vitamin D as a food. It is a dietary supplement and that can be regarded as a food. Moores Cancer Center is proposing that cancer may actually be a vitamin D deficiency. So getting enough vitamin D would be like a cancer cure. From above website:

Like many plant-based foods, tea contains flavonoids, known for their antioxidant effects. One flavonoid in particular, kaempferol, has shown protective effects against cancer.

I had never heard of the phytochemical kaempferol before. It mentions the phytochemical sulforaphane in cruciferous (cabbage family) vegetables. Please note that plant foods contain thousands of phytochemicals that have an effect on the human body. Johns Hopkins have bred broccoli sprouts to be very high in sulforaphane and patented them. They are sold in supermarkets.

The above has a more extensive list of foods and other things and foods to avoid like certain meats and meats cooked in a certain way. It mentions tomatoes, grapes and berries. All of these are also good for cardiovascular health besides preventing and treating cancer.

The cabbage family (brassica or cruciferous) family vegetables are especially known for for fighting cancer. Joel Fuhrman M.D. says that a study shows that if you increase vegetable intake by 20% it reduces your chances of getting cancer by 20%. But if you increase your consumption of cruciferous vegetables by 20%, you reduce your chances of getting cancer by 40%. It is much easier to prevent cancer than to cure cancer.

Wikipedia says about the above vegetables:

Vegetables of the family Brassicaceae (also called Cruciferae) are called cruciferous vegetables. The vegetables are widely cultivated, with many genera, species, and cultivars being raised for food production such as cauliflower, cabbage, cress, bok choy, broccoli and similar green leaf vegetables. The family takes its alternate name (Cruciferae, New Latin for “cross-bearing”) from the shape of their flowers, whose four petals resemble a cross.

There are certain mushrooms that help the immune system and fight against cancer like the shitake mushroom and the maitake mushroom. Grapes contain resveratrol and OPCs that are effective against cancer and also help heart health. There are many Great Foods That Fight Cancer.
